WHO Director-General: communiqué issued to all countries calling for respect of the principle of "free passage" of ships

Chelsea seabay 2020-04-21 00:00:00

WHO Director-General Dr. Tan Desai said that currently, in the absence of evidence-based risk assessments, three cruise ships have encountered delays in port clearance or have been denied access to ports.

We will work with the International Maritime Organization to issue a communiqué to all countries in accordance with the International Health Regulations, demanding respect for the principle of "free passage of ships" and proper care for all passengers. We have also established communication channels with IMO, the International Cruise Line Association and major cruise ship operators to ensure that we have accurate information and can provide correct advice.
