Recently, the Hamburg Port Authority in Germany announced that it plans to close several railway tracks connecting Hamburg container terminals and the inland areas in August and October 2025.

The German Port Authority of Hamburg said: Due to the newly built Finkenwade Bridge on the A7 Expressway, this closure is necessary.

The existing Finkenwade Bridge is an important transportation hub connecting multiple container terminals and needs renovation. The new bridge will be built in the same location and will span the port railway tracks.

Since these tracks are the only rail links connecting the Hamburg Container Terminals (CTH, also known as Eurogate) and Burchardkai (CTB), these terminals will be severely affected at the following times.

August 2, 2025 06:00-August 3, 2025 06:00 (24 hours)

August 9, 2025 06:00-August 10, 2025 06:00 (24 hours)

October 3, 2025 07:00-18:00 (11 hours)

October 4, 2025 07:00-18:00 (11 hours)

October 5, 2025 07:00-18:00 (11 hours)

October 6, 2025 07:00-12:00 (5 hours)

In addition, according to German media Metrans, another large-scale closure of the main channel between Berlin and the northern German ports is planned from August 4, 2025 to April 2026.

The closure will affect all services between Hamburg, Bremen and Wilhelmshaven, as well as the ports of Konechs Worsthausen in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Germany.

Remind all freight forwarders and cargo owners to check the latest shipment period and port congestion before shipment, and make plans for cargo transportation in advance.
