OOCL adds another 24,000 TEU ship, adding a new member to the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel ship series

Sunny Worldwide Logistics It is a logistics company with more than 20 years of transportation experience, focusing on markets such as Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, and Southeast Asia. It is more of a cargo owner than a cargo owner~

Recently, OOCL held a naming ceremony at the Nantong COSCO Shipping Kawasaki Shipbuilding Engineering Co., Ltd. shipyard to officially name its second methanol dual-fuel container ship "OOCL Grace". The ship is the second in a series of seven 24,000TEU methanol dual-fuel container ships built by NACKS for OOCL. This series of ships is currently called the world's largest methanol dual-fuel container ship series by OOCL.

A series of ships are advancing in an orderly manner to accelerate the formation of the green fleet.

OOCL’s green fleet construction is accelerating. In May this year, the first ship in the series "OOCL Wisdom" was named; in July, the ship completed its first green methanol filling at Qingdao Port and embarked on its maiden voyage to Europe. OOCL previously disclosed that "OOCL Wisdom" has a maximum container capacity of 24,168TEU. The main engine, auxiliary engines and boilers are equipped with methanol dual-fuel systems, and are equipped with energy efficiency management, intelligent monitoring and safety assurance systems. With the official naming of "OOCL Grace", the first two of the seven ships in this series have completed a key node.

Synchronous layout of green and large-scale parallel multi-fuel paths

In April this year, OOCL announced the construction of 12 13,600TEU-class LNG dual-fuel container ships; in July, "OOCL Wisdom" launched its maiden voyage with green methanol; and now the second large-scale methanol dual-fuel ship has been named. OOCL is simultaneously promoting the layout of ship types for multiple green fuel routes such as methanol and LNG. In the 2026 interim performance materials released on August 27, OOCL stated that it will continue to promote fleet expansion, greening and digital construction, and achieve green transformation of the fleet through diversified technological paths.

Optimize capacity allocation to support global network upgrades

According to OOCL, the successive delivery of new ships is not only a fleet update, but will also be used to optimize capacity allocation and global route network. Peter Pan, a member of the Trade and Executive Committee of OOCL, said at the naming ceremony that with the successive delivery of "OOCL Grace" and its sister ships, the company will continue to optimize capacity deployment and network configuration to provide customers with more stable and sustainable logistics solutions.

Currently, OOCL’s series of 24,000TEU methanol dual-fuel ships are being built and delivered one after another. As subsequent ships are put into operation, the scale of OOCL's green large-scale fleet will continue to expand. Judging from industry trends, the use of methanol dual-fuel technology on large container ships has moved from the single-ship test stage to large-scale fleet deployment. The combination of green fuel and large-scale shipping capacity is becoming an important direction for liner companies to update their fleets.
