According to the Philippine Coast Guard, on November 18, the Chinese container ship "MV SHENG AN" successfully rescued 16 crew members of the chemical tanker "King Rich" who abandoned the ship and fell into the water during heavy storms in the Philippine waters.

The Philippine Coast Guard posted on social media that at around 12:52 local time on November 18, the propeller shaft of the "King Rich" broke off in the waters near Badoc Island, Ilocos Norte, causing seawater to enter the engine room. There was no cargo on board the ship at the time of the incident, and the crew made sure there would be no leaks in the engine and fuel tank before abandoning the ship.

Ship information shows that the "King Rich" ship (IMO: 8920139) has a deadweight of 13,925 tons, was built in 1990, and flies the flag of Sierra Leone.

The captain of the "King Rich" ship said that the 16 crew members on the ship initially tried to control the water inflow, but soon found that they could not drain the water. Fearing that the ship would be swamped, it was finally decided to abandon ship and get into a life raft
