According to the latest information from Xinde Maritime.com, the China Shipowners Association has officially joined the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS).

In a newly released press release, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) stated that it is "delighted to welcome the China Shipowners Association (CSA) as a full member from January 1, 2023."

CSA will also appoint directors who will join the ICS Board of Directors. At ICS, the Board of Directors oversees the policy positions ICS puts forward on behalf of shipowners around the world, and works with global multilateral regulators of the shipping industry, including the UN's International Maritime Organization and the International Labor Organization.

In view of China's important status as the most important shipping power, CSA membership fully affirms ICS' status as the voice of the global shipping industry through its unique structure composed of member country (and regional) shipowner associations.

Founded in 1993, CSA is a voluntary industry organization whose members are shipowners, operators and managers of merchant ships registered in the People's Republic of China. CSA assists Chinese government agencies to regulate and maintain fair competition and reflects the views of its members.

Mr. Emanuele Grimaldi, Chairman of the International Chamber of Shipping, said:

Only through partnership will we be able to succeed.

“All ICS members look forward to working sincerely with CSA and strengthening their future cooperation with the Chinese shipping industry in addressing the challenges facing our industry.”

Mr. Zhang Shouguo, Executive Vice President of China Shipowners Association said:

"The joining of the China Shipowners Association to ICS will provide a good platform for Chinese shipowners. Chinese shipowners will globalize and build a safe supply chain, making the voice of China's shipping industry, and Chinese shipowners will grow together with shipping companies around the world CSA also hopes to use ICS as an information platform to provide more help to China's shipping industry and provide necessary support for the transformation of low-carbon and green shipping.

"The cooperation between CSA and ICS will have an important impact on both sides. We firmly believe that with the addition of CSA, the ICS platform will be even more exciting. We look forward to win-win cooperation and common development!"
