FRANKFURT, GERMANY - Faulty Customs System at Air Cargo Terminal Slows Cargo Backlog Efficiency

Over the weekend, German customs experienced a major outage in the customs Atlas system. This disruption caused considerable problems in terms of information exchange until the early hours, so customs declarations were not triggered, or were triggered with significant delay. No cargo was picked up as the freight forwarder was unable to initiate customs clearance or transit procedures. This has resulted in unusually high inventory levels and a partial slowdown in the physical and documentary clearance process. As of this morning, the Atlas system is largely back to normal, and we expect pickup rates to increase rapidly. In order to provide more pickup places immediately, FCS has recruited additional staff at short notice. A further increase in staff is also planned in the coming days to ensure the rapid flow of goods.
