Successful Case: Customized Non-Standard Rolling Shutter Door SOC Container Shipment from Shenzhen to France & Portugal

Alvin SWWL 2025-07-04 17:30:06

Client Challenge:

The client needed to ship a modified Shipper's Own Container (SOC) with a non-standard rolling shutter door. However, they faced three critical challenges:

*The modified container’s structural integrity did not meet the carrier's stacking load requirements.

*The destination terminals did not offer free demurrage days.

*Daily storage fees were extremely high, reaching RMB 1500/day.

Our Solution:

  1. Structural Certification & Pre-Approval:

*We coordinated with a certified third-party inspection agency to perform structural reinforcement assessments.

*Obtained carrier pre-approval for the modified SOC’s seaworthiness and stackability.

  1. Priority Loading Arrangement:

*We liaised directly with the port and carriers to ensure priority stowage on board, avoiding bottom-stack positions and potential rejection.

  1. Just-In-Time (JIT) Port Entry Strategy:

*Synchronized container arrival timing to enter the port just before loading, minimizing dwell time.

*Avoided storage charges by bypassing early gate-in without stacking permissions.

  1. Route Optimization:

*Selected direct service routes with the shortest transit times to France and Portugal.

*Reduced risks of transshipment delays or additional handling.

Outcome:

*Shipment departed on schedule from Shenzhen.

*Delivered to both France and Portugal without demurrage charges.

*Helped the client avoid over RMB 10,000 in potential storage costs.

*Built a repeat SOC shipping framework for future customized cargoes.
