U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) says the agency has collaborated with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to seize close proximity in Chicago2 millionThe estimated retail value of unauthorized e-cigarette products is US.8 million (about RMB 250 million).
During this operation, the team discovered a variety of illegal electronic cigarette products, almost all of which originated from China and planned to ship to various destinations in the United States.
FDA and CBP personnel determined that many unauthorized e-cigarette goods contain vague product descriptions and incorrect value in the event of a product review that clearly attempts to evade tariffs and import safety issues.
When inspecting the goods, U.S. Customs also found several well-known e-cigarette brands that were unauthorized, including Snoopy Cigarettes, Raz and other brands of e-cigarettes.
"Consumers should understand that these e-cigarette products from China can be dangerous, they are produced and adulterated under unsafe conditions. These products may contain certain deadly substances," said Pete Flores, acting director of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
These seizures are another important action by the U.S. federal agencies to coordinate compliance and enforcement actions to curb the distribution and sales of illegal e-cigarettes.
The action follows a joint team of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Customs and Border Protection identify potential inbound goods and complete other investigations. The team also successfully implemented several new internal efficiency and procedures based on previous actions.
Most of the goods seized violated the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and some products were seized for unauthorized use of protected trademarks, involving intellectual property infringement.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP) will continue to increase the crackdown on illegal import of e-cigarettes, and the relevant companies involved are facing further accountability.
In addition to the above-mentioned cases involving million, there are also cases involving more than 1,800 goods.
CBP announcement shows that recently, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials seized a large number of counterfeit goods at the Columbus port of entry in New Mexico, with the retail price of these goods at 8,037.
The shipment contains 1816 items, including branded auto parts, consumer electronics, Harry Potter themed merchandise and card games.
It is reported that this batch of bonded goods was intercepted by US customs on April 2 this year. Its origin is China and its destination is an address in Mexico. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP) cooperated with trademark holders to confirm that the goods were not legal products and obtained a search authorization on May 6.
“The bonded process allows imported goods to be transported through a bonded carrier from one U.S. port of entry to another U.S. port of entry or other authorized destination without valuation or tariffs, provided that all statutory and regulatory conditions are met.
The outbound inspection of the shipment by CBP determined that these conditions were not met and therefore the cargo was searched," said Hector Mancha, director of the El Paso Regional Operations at CBP.
CBP seized the shipment because the shipment violated intellectual property rights including 19 USC 1526(e), 15 USC 1124 and 19 CFR 133.21. An investigation into the enterprises and related personnel involved in the case is still underway.
