HMM said that except for the United States and Europe, its email servers in all regions are still affected by an unauthorized security breach detected on Saturday. HMM said in a statement on Tuesday that the attack resulted in restricted access to the Outlook email system in certain areas.

HMM added that most of the losses caused by hackers have been repaired, and no information or data leaks have been found. At the same time, it said that in places where e-mail cannot be used, its local agencies will process customer requests over the phone.

HMM stated that its e-commerce platform (including the booking cabin system and document processing) and other systems "operate normally without interruption."

"The email system is gradually being restored, and the IT planning team composed of IT experts is continuing to investigate to prevent further security incidents." The company operates more than 100 container ships and said it will "strengthen security inspections and take protective measures." . HMM said in the statement.

Losses of up to US$300 million (RMB 2 billion) due to "serious business interruption"

. In July 2018, COSCO, the world's third largest shipping company, encountered ransomware that interrupted malicious attacks for several weeks.

In April 2020, Mediterranean Shipping (MSC), the world's second largest shipping company, was attacked by unknown malware, causing its data center to be paralyzed for several days.

On September 28, 2020, the world's fourth largest shipping company CMA CGM (CMA CGM) was attacked by ransomware, and its official website was paralyzed and could not be opened. Many of its global websites were also paralyzed and unable to provide services normally. After the attack, it took the container giant about two weeks to resume operations of its booking portal.
