On January 1, 2022, Tianhe Customs, a subsidiary of Guangzhou Customs, issued an RCEP certificate of origin for export to Japan after application by the enterprise. The goods involved in this certificate are coffee machines and glass kettles exported to Japan, with a value of 113,000 US dollars, this is the first RCEP certificate of origin issued by Guangzhou Customs.

 

On November 2, 2021, the ASEAN Secretariat, the custodian of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) announced: Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and other 6 ASEAN member states and China, Japan, New Zealand, Australia 4 non-ASEAN member states have formally submitted the approval letter to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, the threshold for the agreement to enter into force has been reached. According to the agreement, RCEP will enter into force for the ten countries mentioned above on January 1, 2022.

 

Before the signing of the RCEP, China had signed China-ASEAN, China-New Zealand, China-South Korea and China-Australia free trade agreements with RCEP member countries other than Japan. With the signing of RCEP, China and Japan have also established a free trade relationship. This is the first free trade agreement between China and the world’s top ten economies. It is also the first time that China and Japan have reached a tariff reduction arrangement, which is to the welcome and attention of the majority of import and export enterprises In the first year of the implementation of the tax reduction, 24.9% of China's imports from Japan will achieve zero tariffs, and for Japan's imports from China, 55.5% of the tariffs will be reduced to zero.
