Was thrown away again, why is it always you who are injured?

Kyrie Sunny 2021-05-26 17:49:22

The cabin is booked, the box is packed, and the cargo is shipped to the port, but at this time, you are notified that the cabin is full. Let's wait for the next shift. The ship came, but the goods were not able to get on. The word "dumping the cabinet" must be an unspeakable pain in the hearts of all freight forwarders.

At present, under the global consignment boom, the problem of dumping cabinets has gradually become prominent. In terms of container rejections by major shipping companies in April, the rejection rates of Hapag-Lloyd and ONE were 51% and 53%, respectively; Evergreen Shipping and COSCO SHIPPING's usage rates were 47% and 44%, respectively; Fei's rejection rate was as high as 56%, becoming the shipping company with the highest rejection rate in the month. Let's talk about why your goods are always dumped today.

What is the dump cabinet?

"Container dumping", also known as "container dumping", refers to the fact that the shipping company did not load the container that was previously planned to be loaded on board when the container ship departed from the port, resulting in part of the cargo stranded in the port. To put it simply, there is no place on the boat, so let's wait for the next shift.

Obviously, I have booked a place, how can I say that the cabin is full? In fact, the shipping company cannot be completely blamed on this matter. Based on experience, when the ship berths at various ports, there will always be some goods that cannot catch up with the ship due to delays or failure to declare in time, resulting in a low cabin loading rate. Therefore, in order to ensure full load, the shipping company always releases more space than the actual space. For example, in a voyage, the shipping company actually pre-allocated only 120 cabins to a certain port, but released 150 cabins. When the goods cannot be loaded, the only choice is to dump the container.

There are thousands of reasons for dumping containers. In addition to the most common phenomenon of dumping containers due to warehouse explosions, what other circumstances may cause shipping companies to dump containers?

One is that the shipping company makes temporary business technical adjustments. For example, if the ship's stowage plan is temporarily adjusted to drop part of the order cargo; or the ship temporarily adjusts its business route, the port where it was originally expected to call cannot be called, and the cargo originally scheduled to be loaded will be dropped.

The other is business interruption or delay due to force majeure. For example, the weather conditions in some coastal port cities have changed drastically and are prone to severe weather such as typhoons, heavy rains, thunder and lightning, and heavy fog. This will also cause power interruptions, traffic accidents, and roads. Congestion and other conditions have an impact on the lifting, packing, and trailer transportation operations, resulting in the occurrence of goods being dumped.

Was thrown away again, why is it always you who are injured?

Why are you always dumped?

In fact, which cabinets the shipping company wants to dump is not based on the first-come, first-served order, but selectively chooses the boxes. If you don't want to be thrown away, there are too many doorways here.

The first is to fight the freight. If the shipper, charterer or other related parties pay a lower freight to the carrier, in order to obtain higher freight, the shipping company will definitely choose to contact a large competitive customer and set the lower freight The goods were dumped.

The second is to fight for weight. In the case of a ship bursting, the heavier the cabinet is more likely to be dumped. This is because when the shipping company collects freight, it charges according to the number of containers, not the weight. Once there is a lot of cargo on board, the ship may face overweight. In this case, if a 30-ton box is thrown away, it will be Two 15-ton boxes can be exchanged on the ship, and the small abacus of the shipping company is crackling.

The third is to fight for "relationships." For long-term cooperative customers, in order to establish and maintain long-term cooperative relations, the shipping company will provide storage for such customers. Then the shipper or freight forwarder's cabinets that are not closely related to the shipping company will also be given priority. Drop.

The fourth is the importance of fighting. When your box does not contain some perishable or perishable items, or there is still a long time before the delivery date, the shipping company may also throw it away because your goods are not important enough.

What should I do if I dump it all?

For the dumping of containers, although the shipping company is likely to cause it, the shipping company’s bill of lading has a disclaimer and does not constitute a breach of contract. Therefore, the shipping company is not responsible for this. On the contrary, the shipper may also overpay due to the detention of the goods. A fee. Does it sound like the Overlord Pact? But there is no way. Whether the cabinet can be loaded on the ship is always determined by the shipping company. That being the case, let's take a look at how to minimize losses after being dumped.

The first is no loss in postponement. At this time, the shipping company needs to inform the owner and consignee that the cargo has been delayed, explain the reason, and related change information, and need to confirm the next voyage and space status as soon as possible to ensure the smooth shipment of the cargo and prevent the second rejection of the container.

The second type is loss due to postponement. Such goods are generally LCL or FCL close to the delivery date, so timeliness requirements are required. If the delivery date determined by the shipper and the consignee is urgent, and the consignee does not agree to the extension, the next voyage arranged by the shipping company cannot meet the delivery date, you need to notify the original shipping company to return the load, and check other shipping companies recently On the basis of the schedule of the time period and the stowage of the ship, the shipping company and the shipping space of the most recent voyage shall be changed, and the choice of international air transportation is not even ruled out. You can also ask to negotiate and deal with it by adding money to the cabinet, etc., to discuss the remedy as quickly as possible to reduce the loss.

From the current point of view, the high rejection rate will not only adversely affect the shipment of shippers, but also the shipping company will lose its advantage in the market competition because of this. After all, it is not a long-term solution for the shipping company to ensure the full load rate by placing more spaces. In this regard, on the one hand, the shipping company should reduce the "false" space in the peak season to ensure that every box can be boarded; on the other hand, the cargo owner and the ship Both parties of the company should reach a consensus as soon as possible. When the ship is delayed due to the owner's problem, the shipper must pay the shipping company's loss. When the shipping company's problem causes the container to be dropped, the shipping company must pay the shipper's loss.
