Too bad, a large number of orders were canceled

Samira Samira 2025-12-01 09:56:33

Sunny Worldwide LogisticsIt is a logistics company with more than 20 years of transportation experience, focusing on markets such as Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, and Southeast Asia. It is more of a cargo owner than a cargo owner~

Recently, Cheonan City, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea A large fashion logistics center A major fire broke out. The fire continued to burn for 60 hours before it was completely extinguished. There were no casualties at the scene. But more than 10 million pieces of branded clothing and footwear were burned before they could be shipped.

It is reported that the fire broke out at 6:08 am on the 15th, and the fire point was located on the fourth floor of the logistics center building. The large amount of stored clothing acted as a fuel, causing the fire to quickly spread throughout the building.

At the time of the incident, there were 1 security guard and 2 workers at the scene. They all escaped successfully after the alarm sounded, and there were no casualties. A relevant person in charge said that the first and second floors of the building had been completely burned.

According to reports, a total of 430 firefighters, at least 63 ground vehicles and multiple firefighting helicopters participated in fighting the fire that day. Within 50 minutes after receiving the fire report, the fire department raised the response level to "Level 2" and devoted all its efforts to extinguishing the fire. The main fire was controlled at about 3:31 pm that day, which lasted about 9 hours and 30 minutes. The remaining fire cleanup operations were still ongoing for the next two days. The fire was completely extinguished at about 6:11 pm on the 17th.

A fire chief said that due to the large amount of cargo, the fire-fighting process was very difficult. Fortunately, the fire did not spread further. E-Land Group said it had retrieved relevant surveillance video and was investigating the cause of the fire.

It is understood that this logistics center has a five-story structure (four above ground and one underground area) with a total area of 193,210 square meters, which is equivalent to 27 football fields. When the center was completed in July 2014, it was known as Asia's largest fashion logistics base, with a daily handling capacity of up to 50,000 boxes and an annual processing capacity of between 4 million and 5 million boxes.

The fire caused heavy losses. About 11 million pieces of clothing, footwear and other items were burned in the distribution center, and most of the facilities were also burned down. Affected by this, many consumers' online orders have been cancelled. Just before the end of the year peak season, the distribution of many fashion brands has also been affected.

Warehousing and logistics sites cover a large area and store a lot of goods. Once a fire breaks out, the fire spreads quickly, is highly dangerous, and difficult to put out, posing great potential safety hazards. Remember, don’t step on these “pits”!

Concentration of combustibles

Logistics warehouses usually store a large amount of goods, and the packaging is mostly flammable and combustible materials such as cartons and plastics. In addition, the stacking density is high. Once a fire breaks out, the fire can easily spread quickly through stacks, shelves, conveyor belts, etc., forming a "burning camp" situation.

There are hidden dangers in the layout

In order to save costs, some logistics warehouses occupy safe spaces to stack goods, resulting in insufficient width or blockage of fire escapes. When a fire breaks out, evacuation of personnel is blocked and fire-fighting vehicles find it difficult to approach, delaying the prime time for rescue.

Electrical line failure

In logistics warehouses, electrical fires can easily occur due to problems such as unplugged wires, overloaded equipment, aging circuits, etc. In addition, illegal ignition in the warehouse (such as cutting, smoking) or forklifts without anti-static treatment may also become sources of fire.

Mixed stacking of goods

Some warehouses do not store hazardous chemicals and ordinary goods separately. If ventilation and heat dissipation are poor or management is improper, chain reactions such as spontaneous combustion and explosion may occur.

Safety is no small matter, take precautions before it “burns”! In the face of possible risks and hazards, all warehousing and logistics companies must take proactive precautions and refine safety measures to effectively avoid accidents.
