Samsung Heavy Industries names the third 13,100TEU container ship for Wan Hai Shipping

Elena Souhang.com 2023-03-28 17:07:16

Wan Hai Shipping has ordered a series of 13 13,100TEU container ships at Samsung Heavy Industries, of which the first two "Hongchun (WAN HAI A07)" and "Dongchun (WAN HAI A08)" were delivered and operated last year. This is currently the largest vessel in Wan Hai Shipping's own fleet.

This type of ship has a total length of 335 meters, a width of 51 meters, a maximum draft of 16 meters, and a design speed of up to 22 knots. The ship adopts a new main engine design, equipped with a fully balanced twisted spherical rudder and a pre-swirl device in front of the propeller, which can effectively reduce resistance and achieve energy saving effects. In addition, the series of ships are equipped with AMP (Alternative Maritime Power) shore power system, which can reduce carbon emissions when the ship is docked, and meet the highest standard of the third stage of EEDI in advance, in line with the trend of green shipping. In addition, the series of ships have also obtained the "smart ship" certification, which will help strengthen ship safety management.

The newly named "Huangchun" ship will be completed and delivered in late February, and will be put into the operation of Wan Hai Shipping's Asia-North America route, strengthening the layout of Wan Hai Shipping's ocean-going routes, and providing customers with high-quality and safe transportation services.

According to the International Shipping Network, Wan Hai Shipping started the "crazy" ship booking expansion mode in the first half of 2021 when the container shipping market was booming, and successively ordered more than 40 new ships. In addition to Samsung Heavy Industries' 13 ships with 10,000 containers, Sea Shipping ordered five 13,200TEU container ships at Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea in March last year, which are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2023.

According to the latest data from Alphaliner, Wan Hai Shipping currently operates a fleet of 142 ships, including 112 self-owned ships and 30 chartered ships, with a total shipping capacity of 432,500 TEUs, ranking 11th in the world. In addition, Wan Hai Shipping has 37 new ships under construction, totaling 273,800 TEU, accounting for 63.3% of the existing fleet.
