It is reported that on the evening of July 10, local time, a large container ship "ZEPHYR LUMOS" full of Chinese export goods collided with a bulk carrier named "GALAPAGOS" in the Strait of Malacca.

The accident caused serious damage to the bulk carrier "GALAPAGOS", the cargo hold was punctured, and water and oil leakage occurred. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The cause of the accident and the number of crew involved are still under investigation, and both ships are currently at anchor."

The accident occurred 14.1 nautical miles southwest of Kuala Lumpur, when both ships were sailing west.

According to reports, the steering system of the bulk carrier "GALAPAGOS" malfunctioned, making it unable to control the course, causing the nearby "ZEPHYR LUMOS" to evade and hit the starboard cargo area of "GALAPAGOS".

According to the Malaysian Coast Guard, the collision caused serious damage to the hull of the bulk carrier "GALAPAGOS" and a fuel leak occurred.

The two ships separated after the collision and are currently at anchor. The bulk carrier "GALAPAGOS" was near or still at the collision site, and the container ship "ZEPHYR LUMOS" was located north of the collision site.

The specific cause of the accident is still under investigation, and relevant departments are dealing with the leak.

According to the large schedule data, the container ship "ZEPHYR LUMOS" has a capacity of 15,000 TEU and serves the Asia-Mediterranean MD2 route of THE Alliance. It has called Shanghai Yangshan Port, Ningbo Port, Kaohsiung Port and Shenzhen Shekou Port and other major Chinese ports. At the time of the accident, the ship was fully loaded with Chinese export goods and headed to the Mediterranean region.

The ship's co-cabin company includes: HAPAG-LLOYD, HMM, ONE, YANG MING.

In addition, the shipping company ONE once issued a "Notice on the Late Opening of the Shanghai Port of the MD2 Route", mentioning the delay of the "ZEPHYR LUMOS" ship. Unexpectedly, the ship collided shortly after sailing.

The collision accident is serious, and the shipping schedule may be delayed again. Chinese cargo owners who have cargo on board "ZEPHYR LUMOS" need to communicate with the shipping company in time to understand the details of the accident and follow-up arrangements.
