Recently, the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) announced the development of a new berth called "Berth Zero" as part of the port expansion plan. It is reported that the project has been authorized to a joint venture company of MMC Engineering Sdn Bhd and Antara Ko (M) Sdn Bhd.
Tanjung Pelepas Port is the third largest transshipment port in the world, second only to the Port of Singapore and the Port of Busan. PTP Terminal is a joint venture between MMC Group and Maersk Terminals (APMT), which holds 70% and 30% of the shares respectively. In the Gemini Alliance route network of Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, Tanjung Pelepas Port will become an important transshipment hub.
It is reported that the new berth is a linear wharf with a length of about 360 meters, which will be extended on the undeveloped reserve land of the port and will be equipped with four container cranes and a supporting yard specially designed for electric tire cranes (e-RTG).
The "Berth Zero" project of the new berth at Tanjung Pelebas Port has been authorized to the winning company.
Tanjung Pelepas Port Chairman Datuk Seri Chekar Lee recently pointed out that this project aims to optimize the current layout of the port and hopes to increase the total throughput of the port to approximately 16 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEU) in the next two and a half years.
Mark Hardiman, CEO of the port, said that the "Berth Zero" berth expansion project is another major expansion project following the completion of the 13-berth and 14-berth expansion projects in 2014 and will reset the port's throughput.
In 2024, Tanjung Pelepas Port completed 12.253309 TEUs. Previously, Tanjung Pelepas Port completed 11.2 million TEUs in 2021, setting a historical record.
