On October 9, Jiangnan Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, and China Shipbuilding Trading jointly built the last "MSC CHINA" in the world's largest 24,000-box class ultra-large container ship series for China Shipbuilding Leasing and Turkish Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). Delivered in Shanghai.

The ship was designed by China Shipbuilding Hudong Zhonghua and registered with DNV (Det Norske Veritas). The ship has a total length of 399.99 meters, a molded width of 61.5 meters, and a molded depth of 33.2 meters. The deck area is close to four standard football fields. The maximum number of container stacks can reach 25, which is equivalent to the height of a 22-story building. It can load 24,116 containers. It is currently the container ship type with the largest container volume in the world.

The ship is equipped with a hybrid desulfurization tower, as well as unique small bulbous bow, large-diameter propellers and energy-saving ducts. At the same time, the bubble drag reduction system is used for the first time, which not only effectively reduces the total energy consumption of the ship, but also reduces the corresponding total carbon emissions by 3% to 4%, which can reduce more than 6,000 tons throughout the year. The first use of a shaft generator system can effectively reduce fuel consumption, optimize fuel consumption and ship energy efficiency design index, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Up to now, Jiangnan Shipbuilding and Hudong-Zhonghua, both affiliated to China State Shipbuilding Corporation, have completed and delivered thirteen of the world’s largest ultra-large container ships, which also means that Shanghai has become the world’s R&D and construction center for ultra-large container ships.
