Three major ports in the Red Sea were air strikes

According to the latest CCTV report, from the night of the 6th to the early morning of the 7th local time, Israel carried out intensive air strikes on the western port city of Yemen, Hodeida.

Local residents said there was an explosion from the port of Hodeida, Yemen.

According to Houthi armed forces, from the night of the 6th to the early morning of the 7th local time, Israel attacked Hodeida Province in western YemenPort of Hodeida, Port of Ras Isa, Port of SalifThere are several goals including three major ports and a local power station.

In the early morning of the 7th local time, Israeli Defense Minister Katz issued a statement saying that the Israeli army launched a military strike against the "Yemeni Houthi armed targets" in the Port of Hodeida, Salif, Las Isa Port and Laskatib Power Station in the western Hodeida Province in Yemen.

Katz said that the "Galaxy Leader" cargo ship, which was detained and controlled by Houthi forces in the Red Sea waters in November 2023, is also attacking the target.

The statement said that the air strike was supported by intelligence agencies and the Navy in collaboration with intelligence agencies, and dozens of fighter jets participated in the operation.

Before the air strike, on the evening of the 6th local time, an Arabic spokesperson of the Israeli military issued a so-called "evacuation order" to personnel in the power stations in Yemen's ports of Hodeida, Ras Isa and Salif and Hodeida areas through social platforms, saying that air strikes will be carried out soon.

Ukraine's Odessa port is attacked, causing serious damage

In addition, on July 3 local time, Gennati Trukhanov, mayor of Odessa City in Ukraine, said on social media that Odessa City was once again attacked by Russian missiles, and explosions were heard in the city and people were called on to go to the air-raid shelter.

Ukrainian officials issued a statement saying that the July 3 missile attack on the Odessa port area was a deliberate attack on civilian infrastructure and was part of Russia's propaganda campaign against Ukraine's economy and agriculture. The attack killed two dock workers and injured six, including two Syrian crew members on a cargo ship from the port.

On Thursday afternoon local time, an Iskander missile hit the port area. An unknown cargo ship registered in Sao Tome and Principe was reportedly unloading metal at the docks, killing a dock worker and a truck driver, six others were injured, at least one injured was a driver at the port and the others were two crew members on board.

The explosion reportedly caused serious damage to the infrastructure in the Port of Odessa, with damage to the shore bridge cranes, warehousing facilities, vehicles and containers.

"Russia shelled our ports for the fourth consecutive year. It is fighting the infrastructure that connects Ukraine to the world," Oleksiy Kuleba, deputy prime minister responsible for the reconstruction of Ukraine, posted on social media. "This attack is another example of Russia's deliberate destruction of our transportation hubs, export capabilities and civilian lives. Free and safe navigation must be the norm, not the exception."

Odessa Port is an extremely important port in Ukraine, and it carries about 90% of Ukraine's export goods, including grains and metals. Since Ukraine established a safe shipping corridor in the Black Sea in August 2023, more than 101 million tons of grain cargo have been exported through the Port of Odessa, including 78.5 million tons of grain.

However, Russian troops have launched multiple attacks on Ukrainian ports in recent years. Ukrainian Reconstruction Ministry Deputy Prime Minister Olexi Kureba said Russia has repeatedly attacked Ukrainian ports in the past four years with the aim of destroying transportation hubs and disrupting exports.

In October 2024, Kureba said that Russia launched 60 attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure in just three months, destroying 300 port facilities, 177 cars and 22 civilian ships, killing 79 port workers, logistics employees and crew members.

In May this year, two Russian ballistic missiles attacked Odessa, killing three people and injuring five people, and the HHLA container terminal in Odessa was also affected.

The attack comes as the International Transport Workers Union (ITWF) calls for the designation of the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman and Israeli ports as War Action Zones (WOA) as soon as possible. ITWF said this would give seafarers the right to refuse access to these areas and enable them to be repatriated safely without penalty.

Here is a reminder: Foreign trade and freight forwarders who have shipped to the above-mentioned countries recently should pay close attention to the impact of goods and logistics.
