According to foreign media reports, a nationwide strike will break out in Mexico on November 24. Transport workers and farmers will take part in the protest, organized by Mexico's National Transport Association (ANTAC) and the Mexican Farmers' Agricultural Movement (MAC).
It is understood that the specific measures of this strike include setting up roadblocks on multiple traffic arteries, specifically blocking cargo transportation, and announcing that they will take the "Occupy Customs" action to put pressure on the authorities.
As the core hub for Chinese goods entering Mexico, the operation of the Port of Manzanillo is crucial to China-Mexico cross-border trade.
The port handles about 4,000 truck transportation needs every day and is responsible for 42% of China-Mexico shipping volume. It is the "lifeline" for many cross-border sellers to prepare goods.
However, if this strike action is fully implemented, the Port of Manzanillo will face impact:
On the one hand, the inland freight channels connecting the ports may be cut off, and cargo arriving at the port cannot be diverted efficiently, leading to port congestion and paralysis; in addition, the direct shipping capacity between China and Mexico is unstable this year, and some Chinese goods have used the "US-Mexico" alternative route.
The strike plan may include blocking the US-Mexico border, and sellers' stocking plans will face the double blow of "main channel congestion backup channel interruption".
It is worth mentioning that there have been multiple strikes in Mexico since late October.
We would like to remind all cargo owners and freight forwarders to make arrangements in advance before shipping, and to track the goods in a timely manner after shipment to avoid unnecessary losses due to accidents.
