Eyeing overseas students? Korean shipbuilding companies cooperate with universities to cultivate shipbuilding talents

Elena Sohang.com 2022-10-18 12:13:52

The main contents of the agreement include the establishment of an E-7 employment visa conversion agreement body for overseas students who graduated from Korean universities, the establishment and evaluation of a joint skills verification team between schools and enterprises, the provision of guidance space and office equipment support for students in internship colleges, and the support of students. Education and practice provide equipment and equipment support, jointly develop targeted education courses and characteristic courses, lecturer support and implementation of evaluation plans, and formulate an on-site practice system for overseas students in Daxian Shipbuilding.

In order to cultivate outstanding talents that meet the needs of the shipbuilding industry, both schools and enterprises have decided to jointly operate a recruitment-connected order-based education course. When Dongui University of Science and Technology provides employment support to Daesun Shipbuilding, Daesun Shipbuilding will give recruitment discounts to students who are in regular advanced education courses.

In addition, the two parties also plan to actively cooperate in the construction of on-site basic learning spaces and joint use of equipment, on-site university visits, and on-site internship support.

Representative director of Dae Sun Shipbuilding, Lee Soo-geun, executive Lee Seung-won, President of Dongui University of Science and Technology Kim Yong-do, Dean of International Exchange Kim Tae-kyung, Minister Lim Dong-hyun, team leader Lee Moon-hee and other related persons attended the signing ceremony.

Kim Yong-do, President of Dongui University of Science and Technology, said: "In order to adapt to the era of globalization, our school is focusing on cultivating outstanding overseas students. Through this agreement, we will strive to cultivate outstanding shipbuilding talents with higher practical ability."

Li Xiugen, representative director of Daesun Shipbuilding, said: "The company is full of expectations for the talents cultivated by Dongyi University of Science and Technology, which has an excellent team of professors and an excellent educational environment. I believe that through this agreement, the human and material resources of both the school and the enterprise can be well integrated. In the future, there will be a huge synergy effect in discovering global shipbuilding technical talents."

With the official start of construction of a large number of orders undertaken in recent years, the shortage of manpower in Korean shipbuilding companies is increasing. According to the report "Prospects for Jobs in Major Industries in the Second Half of 2021" by the Korea Employment Information Service, among the eight major industries in the country, only shipbuilding lost jobs. The manpower shortage problem of small and medium-sized shipbuilding companies in South Korea is even more serious. Since the middle of last year, some small and medium-sized shipbuilding companies have been in trouble due to the loss of core production and technical talents, and even a large number of production management personnel have been "poached" by large shipbuilding companies. There have been extreme cases where parts of the production line collapsed.

In order to alleviate the contradiction of the severe shortage of manpower, ensure the future outstanding talents, and enhance the competitiveness of enterprises, the Ministry of Justice of South Korea announced that starting from August 8 this year, it will implement the advanced field internship visa system for overseas students of outstanding universities. The scope of cutting-edge fields is the cutting-edge technologies announced in Article 5 of the Industrial Development Act of Korea, including semiconductor, IT, technology management, nano, digital electronics, biology, transportation and machinery, new materials, environment and energy fields. With the introduction of this policy, overseas students studying in Korean universities can also do internships in related Korean companies.

The Ministry of Justice of South Korea expects that this move will provide potential overseas talents with the opportunity to experience working and living in South Korean companies, attract overseas students in South Korea, and thus have the effect of seizing the world's outstanding human resources.
