01 Release of the world's top 100 container ports
The internationally renowned shipping media "Lloyd's List" recently announced the ranking of the world's top 100 container ports in 2022, and 27 Chinese ports were on the list. Shanghai Port topped the list with a container throughput of 47.3 million TEUs for 13 consecutive years.
Seven of the top ten on the list are from China, followed by Shanghai Port, Ningbo Zhoushan Port, Shenzhen Port, Qingdao Port, Guangzhou Port, Tianjin Port and Hong Kong Port. Except for Hong Kong Port, the container throughput of the remaining six ports all achieved growth last year. Ningbo Zhoushan Port, which ranks third, is the largest port in Zhejiang Province. Last year, its container throughput was 33.351 million TEUs; its cargo throughput exceeded 1.25 billion tons, ranking first in the world for 14 consecutive years.
Seven of the top 100 ports are from the Yangtze River Delta region. In addition to Shanghai Port and Ningbo Zhoushan Port, there are also Taicang Port, Lianyungang Port, Nanjing Port, Jiaxing Port and Nantong Port. Taicang Port is the largest port in Jiangsu, with a cargo throughput of 266 million tons and a container throughput of 8.026 million TEUs last year. Last year, Jiaxing Port completed a container throughput of 2.854 million TEUs, an increase of 28.4%, ranking first among the top 100 container ports.
02 The water level of the Rhine River in Germany fell to a new low this year
The economic blow from Europe's heatwave is looming, with manufacturing powerhouse Germany scrambling for supply chain troubles due to low water levels in its commercial canal, the Rhine.
Water levels at Kaub, a key chokepoint for barges on the Rhine, dropped this week to their lowest levels this year. The low water level means that 80% of Germany's inland cargo transportation, including crude oil and natural gas, will be greatly restricted, because cargo ships will not be able to sail with full load.
German chemicals maker Covestro ships 30 percent of its finished products via the Rhine and relies on it to receive most of its raw materials. Another chemical giant, BASF, said it has begun to use cargo ships available at low water levels to supply its Ludwigshafen plant. 40% of the raw materials of the production base are also transported through the Rhine.

06 The throughput of the Port of Oakland in West America fell by 26.5%

07 ONE launches new service connecting the Adriatic Sea, Israel, Egypt and Greece
Singapore-based container shipping company Ocean Network Express (ONE) will start a new feeder service linking Adriatic ports, Israel, Egypt and Greece.
ONE’s new Adriatic Israel Butterfly Ring Service (AIB) is expected to provide a new gateway for customers in the European and Mediterranean regions.
The new weekly service is scheduled to depart from Port Damietta on August 16 and will have a 21-day round trip.
08 CMA CGM imposes scanning fees on goods shipped to Congo
CMA CGM has announced a new scanning fee for cargo bound for the Congo, effective July 31.

09 Car freighter catches fire in waters off the Netherlands

The freighter plans to travel from Bremerhaven, Germany to Port Said, Egypt, with nearly 3,000 vehicles on board. At present, all personnel on the freighter have been evacuated, but the fire on the freighter has not yet been extinguished.

10 HMM announces new GRI from India to South America
It is reported that HMM recently announced a new GRI from northern India to the east coast of South America.
Seoul-based shipping company HMM has announced that it will increase the general freight rate (GRI) for cargo from northern India to the east coast of South America (ECSA), including ports in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
From August 13th, HMM will apply the GRI of USD 200 per TEU and USD 400 per FEU and high cubic container.
"All other ancillary charges applicable at the time of shipment will continue to be assessed against the quoted ocean freight rate," the company noted in a statement.
