Sunny Worldwide LogisticsIt is a logistics company with more than 20 years of transportation experience, specializing in markets such as Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, and Southeast Asia. It is more of a cargo owner than a cargo owner~

According to foreign media reports, Mexico’s logistics infrastructure is facing huge challenges from the increase in international freight volume. As transport volumes grow, Mexico's port capacity is reaching saturation, importers are facing extended waiting times, and customs clearance issues are one of the main bottlenecks.

Throughput at Mexican ports overall rose 14.8% in the first eight months of the year, with Lazaro Cardenas seeing an even bigger surge in container throughput between January and September, according to official port statistics. 28.7%.

The increase in transportation volume has brought the average residence time of imported containers to 11 days, far exceeding the seven-day stacking-free period, after which demurrage charges will be incurred.

Container pickup times improved at Mexico's four main ports in September, averaging 4 hours and 44 minutes. Among them, customs took the longest time, with an average of 2 hours and 19 minutes, loading and unloading took 1 hour and 3 minutes, and truck drivers waited an average of 1 hour and 22 minutes.

At the Lazaro Cardenas port, truck drivers spent an average of six hours last month picking up containers, with nearly half of that time (2.9 hours) taken up by customs procedures.

At the recent Intermodal Transport Congress hosted by the Mexican Intermodal Transport Association, Francisco Orozco, Commercial Director of Hutchison Ports Mexico, called on logistics industry associations and customs authorities to work together to find solutions, including evaluating the possibility of extending customs operations to 24 hours a day. sex. He also noted the need to digitize processes.

However, it is unlikely that customs will work around the clock. The customs agency attributes the inability to speed up customs clearance to a lack of manpower, making it difficult to operate 24 hours a day.

On the bright side, container handling times at the Lázaro Cardenas port have improved due to upgrades in local customs resources. Still, further improvements are needed.

John Willy, president of the Latin American Federation of Customs Brokers, said authorities should work to improve measures to facilitate the flow of goods and not just focus on national security. He added that the industry should come together to develop solutions that would attract the attention of authorities.

At present, Mexico has become a hot spot for Chinese-funded enterprises to go overseas, and Mexican import demand has also grown explosively. Although the Mexican market has huge potential, its complicated import customs clearance process has always been a hindrance to shipments for many traders and cross-border sellers, which has also earned Mexican customs clearance the title of "Devil's Customs Clearance."

We would like to remind cargo owners and freight forwarders related to Mexican business that due to the complexity and inefficiency of the Mexican customs clearance process, complete, accurate and required customs clearance documents must be prepared when shipping, and communication must be carried out in a timely manner. In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to the cargo node information in real time, and arrange pickup in time after customs clearance to avoid unnecessary expenses.
