CMA CGM adjusts peak season surcharge from China to Africa, up to USD 1,235/TEU
Sunny Worldwide Logistics It is a logistics company with more than 20 years of transportation experience, focusing on markets such as Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, and Southeast Asia. It is more of a cargo owner than a cargo owner~

CMA CGM recently issued a peak season surcharge announcement for some directions from China to Africa, involving routes such as Durban, South Africa, Mombasa, Kenya, and Port Louis, Mauritius.
Relevant charges vary according to departure area and route. The standard ranges from 1,000 to 1,235 US dollars/TEU, applies to all goods, and is effective from October 22 to 28. Judging from the pace of adjustment, African peak season surcharges are being implemented intensively, reflecting that shipping companies are dynamically adjusting their revenue structure based on regional route supply and demand and capacity allocation.
Regional standards vary
Judging from the specific arrangements, the Durban route is divided according to the departure area standards: South China will implement US$1,050/TEU from October 22 to 31 (based on shipment date); North China and Central China will implement US$1,150/TEU from October 28 to 31 (based on shipment date). From South China and Hong Kong, China to Mombasa, Kenya, the relevant goods will be charged USD 1,000/TEU from October 25 (until further notice). From the Far East to Port Louis, Mauritius, relevant goods will be charged US$1,235/TEU starting from October 28, which is the higher level among the standards announced in this round.
Billing caliber and quotation confirmation need to focus on
The Durban route is based on the date of shipment, while the Mombasa and Port Louis directions will be implemented from the effective date until further notice.
For cargo owners and freight forwarders, in addition to checking the departure area and applicable date, they also need to confirm whether the quotation they hold includes peak season surcharges. PSS is usually charged as an additional fee in addition to sea freight. If the quotation does not clearly include it, the actual shipping cost may be higher than the initial budget. It is recommended to verify the fee structure with the shipping company or booking agent during the booking and quotation confirmation process to avoid disputes arising from unclear surcharges.
Operation suggestions
Enterprises that have recently arranged shipments to relevant directions can check the cost standards on a ticket-by-ticket basis based on the departure area, shipment date and specific route, and clarify the PSS payment method in the quotation and contract. At the same time, attention should be paid to changes in shipping schedules, customs cut-off times and freight rate validity periods, cargo transportation plans should be made in advance, and necessary room for cost adjustment should be reserved. For freight forwarders involved in long-term business in Africa, continuous tracking of shipping company surcharge announcements and freight rate adjustment rhythms will help improve quotation accuracy and customer communication efficiency.
