KuehneNagel, the world's largest sea freight forwarder, has poured cold water on this year's sea freight season. Both Kuehne & Navigator and DSV have recently announced their first-half results, and their profits have fallen sharply, which is consistent with the downturn in the entire industry.

 

Stefan Paul, chief executive of Kuehne & Nagel, said: "It is not expected that there will be a peak season in 2023, and there are no signs of sea and air freight, but we believe that there may be an inflection point in the second half of the year."

 

It is reported that Kuehne & Nagel's definition of peak season is that the volume of goods in August-November will increase by at least 10%-15%.

Recently, Hong Kong dry bulk carrier Pacific Basin announced its interim results for the first six months of 2023. The company's first-half turnover was US.1481 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 33%; basic profit was US.2 million, a year-on-year decrease 83%, net profit of 85.3 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 82%.

 

According to Pacific Basin's report, in the first half of the year, the company purchased more modern cargo ships, including five super handy size dry bulk carriers, one super handy size dry bulk carrier and one handy size dry bulk carrier, while Sale of two older handysize dry bulk vessels to gain return on value and meet stricter environmental regulations.
