With the arrival of the year-end e-commerce promotion season, the European logistics system is facing severe pressure.

 

Recently, many logistics service providers have experienced operational delays. Among them, UPS's delivery network in many places in Europe has been under heavy load. At the same time, some Amazon distribution centers are also facing tight storage capacity, resulting in a backlog of goods in express hubs and overseas warehouses. This situation has brought operational challenges to many sellers and cargo owners targeting the European market.

 

Multi-national logistics nodes are operating intensively

 

 

Under the impact of peak cargo volume brought about by shopping seasons such as Black Friday and Christmas, the warehousing and distribution capabilities of major European logistics hubs have been put to the test. The receiving capacity of warehouses in countries such as Germany, France, and the Netherlands is becoming saturated, and unloading sites are insufficient. As a result, many FBA goods transported by air freight combined with truck delivery are stranded on vehicles, waiting to enter the warehouse.

 

It is reported that the warehouse distribution pressure in Germany is particularly prominent. Relevant operators have announced in advance in November that they will suspend receiving goods to FBA warehouses during a specific period in early December and will not resume until mid-December. This move caused the flow of goods originally destined for Germany to seek to enter warehouses in neighboring countries such as the Netherlands and France, further exacerbating congestion at these nodes.

 

Logistics feedback shows that in some warehouses in the Netherlands, there are only a limited number of unloading vehicles that can be processed every day, and subsequent vehicles have to wait in line for a long time, and there are even cases where new unloading appointments are temporarily stopped.

 

Air transport capacity bottleneck highlighted

 

In addition to terminal warehousing pressure, the shortage of air transport capacity is also an important factor leading to the extension of the logistics cycle.

 

Since late November, shipments sent to Europe from multiple origins in Asia have faced extended flight waiting times at transit hubs such as Hong Kong, with waiting times ranging from several days to more than ten days. This phenomenon is not a single route problem, cargoes sent from other regions such as South Korea to Spain have also reported similar transit delays.

 

Seller operations are affected

 
 

Logistics delays have had a direct impact on sales activity. Many sellers reported that due to the inability to complete final delivery of goods in time, some goods that had been shipped as early as the end of October missed the Black Friday sales window, which may now further affect the sales plan for the Christmas quarter, causing considerable economic losses.

 

The industry actively adjusts and responds

 

In order to alleviate the current difficulties, many freight forwarders and logistics companies are taking measures, including diverting goods to other available warehouses or overseas warehouses, and then final delivery through other express delivery networks such as FedEx and DHL. However, the speed of cargo processing is still limited as alternative warehousing resources are also tight. The industry expects that as "Black Friday" orders are gradually digested, warehouse turnover pressure is expected to be gradually eased.

 

The widespread delays experienced by European logistics during the peak season are the result of multiple factors such as seasonal surge in cargo volume, short-term shortage of infrastructure capacity and tight transportation resources.

 

It is recommended that relevant cargo owners and sellers pay close attention to the latest developments of logistics providers and timely adjust inventory and delivery strategies to buffer the impact of supply chain fluctuations. The entire logistics industry also needs to continue to optimize peak season response plans to ensure the stability and smooth flow of cross-border trade.
